It's February. It's cold. The beginning of the next school year seems like forever from now. But this is actually the perfect time to start thinking of the 2020-2021 school year. This is the time of year when most schools begin accepting students for Fall, including all LUMIN Schools.
It's true, you don't have to enroll your child yet, but here is a pro tip for parents. The best schools fill up quickly! A few months from now, classrooms will be full, meaning your child may not get into the school of your choice. So why wait? Here's what you need to know to get started.
First, decide which school(s) you are interested in. LUMIN Schools has eight campuses. We welcome you to schedule a tour at any of them to get a feel for each school.
All of LUMIN's Wisconsin schools participate in one or more Parental Choice Programs. This means qualifying families receive FREE tuition to private schools. Which program you are eligible for depends on where you live:
- If you live in Milwaukee, you will enroll through the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program
- If you live in Racine, you will enroll through the Racine Parental Choice Program.
- If you live anywhere else in Wisconsin, you will enroll through the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. Note, you can only enroll through this program through April 16, 2020!
There are differences between the programs, which are described in more detail on our Parental Choice Programs web page. There is also has a wealth of information on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction website.
All applications are submitted through the Department of Public Instruction's website. Then a parent or guardian must provide a proof of residency and income to the main office of the school to which they applied.
The rest of the process is handled by the schools. If you start the process now, you will have peace of mind knowing your child has a seat in the school of your choice.
